  1. Where is the boundary of the HKUST campus?

The boundary of the Campus is indicated by the dotted line shown on the Campus Map  (Here). Smoking is prohibited within this boundary line except for the places mentioned in question 3 below.

  1. Is there any exemption to the legislation completely banning smoking on university campuses?

 

The only exemption is the area within a staff quarter unit occupied by an individual or an individual family.

  1. Can a person smoke in a quarter or dormitory shared by more than one staff members (such as quarters for research support staff)?

 

As a general principle, all shared (communal) quarters or common areas within quarters are no smoking areas.

No, all common areas within quarters are no smoking areas.

No, the legislation does not provide any exemption to student dormitories.

No, the legislation does not provide any exemption to visitors accommodations on campus such as the Unilodge, Conference Tower etc.

No, smoking in the Unibar is also prohibited.

  1. Can a person smoke in the outdoor area on campus?

 

No, the legislation specifically prohibits smoking in outdoor areas on campus.

  1. What should I do if I see someone smoking on campus?

 

Every member of the campus community has the right to politely remind the smoker that the whole university campus is a no smoking area. If the person refuses to cooperate, one may inform the university Security staff, who are authorized to enforce the no smoking regulations. The Security Control Center can be reached at extension 6565.
